Sidara Hosts Ethiopian Foreign Minister at Trade & Investment Summit Dinner

June 17th, 2026

In June, Sidara was honoured to host H.E. Dr Gedion Timothewos, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, at a Banquet Dinner held at our London Showcase in support of the Trade & Investment of Ethiopia Summit, in partnership with the Labour Africa Network (LAN).

The dinner brought together senior government representatives, business leaders and industry stakeholders to discuss the deepening economic relationship between the UK and Ethiopia. Guests heard keynote addresses from Mark Simmonds, former UK Minister for Africa, H.E. Ambassador Biruk Mekonnen of Ethiopia, and other distinguished speakers, who highlighted the increasing significance of UK–Africa cooperation and the contribution of investment to long-term economic prosperity.

As one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies, Ethiopia presents significant opportunities across sectors such as infrastructure, renewable energy and aviation. Conversations throughout the evening explored how strategic international collaboration can support the country’s development goals while fostering shared value for businesses, investors and communities in both nations.

The importance of these partnerships is reflected in major projects currently shaping Ethiopia’s future. Among them was the mention of the current development of Bishoftu International Airport, for which Dar Al-Handasah (Dar), a Sidara brand, is serving as lead consultant. Expected to become the largest airport in Africa, with a projected capacity of 60 million passengers annually, the project represents Ethiopia’s ambition to strengthen regional connectivity, support economic growth and further establish itself as a key hub for trade and investment across the continent.

It was a privilege to welcome H.E. Dr Gedion Timothewos and other distinguished guests to our London office. The evening provided a valuable platform for dialogue, reinforcing the strength of UK–Africa partnerships and a shared commitment to investment, innovation and sustainable development across Ethiopia and the wider region.
